What is 24-hour home care?

Care arranged across the full day and night.

24-hour home care is a care arrangement designed to provide continuous support at home for a child, adult, or senior. Depending on the person's needs, it may involve personal care, licensed nursing, or a coordinated combination of services.

Continuous coverage describes the schedule, not the level of care. A person who needs clinical monitoring or treatments may require an RN or LPN, while daily living assistance may be provided through appropriate aide services.

Dynamiks Home Care reviews requested hours and services individually. Availability depends on care needs, orders when required, payer requirements, authorization, location, qualified staffing, and the approved plan of care.

For children and families

Pediatric home care and nursing

A child with ongoing medical needs may require licensed nursing beyond a short home health visit. Families can discuss daytime, overnight, or extended nursing schedules based on the child's individual needs.

  • Tracheostomy and ventilator-related care.
  • Ordered feeding tube and medication routines.
  • Clinical observation and seizure precautions.
  • Support during a transition home from the hospital.

A diagnosis alone does not determine eligibility or approved hours. The child's care plan, clinical documentation, payer requirements, and available nursing staff guide the next steps.

Eligible families may also ask about the Florida Family Home Health Aide program . Authorized aide services do not replace nursing tasks that require an RN or LPN.

For adults and seniors

Adult home care and skilled nursing

An adult may need help with daily routines, licensed clinical care, or both. Discuss what happens during the day and overnight so the requested support matches the person's actual needs.

  • Personal care and assistance with daily activities.
  • Ordered nursing for respiratory, feeding, wound, or medication-related needs.
  • Post-hospital or post-surgical nursing support.
  • Care planning when family caregivers need relief.

Some people need extended nursing shifts. Others need aide support or scheduled visits. A care review helps identify the appropriate service and requested schedule.

Daytime, overnight, and continuous coverage.

Describe when your child or loved one needs help, the tasks involved, and whether someone must remain awake. These details help identify the appropriate care schedule and staff qualifications.

Daytime Support

Scheduled help during daytime hours, based on individual care needs. Confirm who will cover the remaining hours and any overnight needs.

Awake Overnight Care

Nighttime coverage when a child, adult, or senior needs an alert caregiver or nurse. The required qualifications depend on the tasks and care plan.

Continuous Shift Coverage

A schedule covering day and night through multiple shifts. Discuss staffing availability, staff qualifications, handoffs, and how any unfilled hours will be covered.

Live-In Arrangements

A live-in arrangement may include sleep and breaks. It does not automatically provide an awake professional at every hour. Ask which models are available and appropriate.

Before care begins: Confirm staffed hours, who covers any gaps, how care information passes between shifts, and whom to contact about schedule changes. Requested services and hours require individual review.

How much does 24-hour home care cost?

The cost depends on requested hours, the level of care, location, and staffing needs. Continuous personal care and continuous licensed nursing should be quoted separately because they involve different qualifications and responsibilities.

Ask for a written explanation of rates, minimum shifts, overnight requirements, and any weekend or holiday differences that apply to your proposed schedule.

Does insurance cover around-the-clock care?

Coverage depends on the patient, service, benefit, and authorization. Pediatric and adult nursing may follow different payer pathways. An accepted insurance plan does not automatically approve continuous coverage.

Medicare does not pay for 24-hour-a-day care at home. It may cover eligible part-time or intermittent home health services. Review Medicare's home health coverage .

Ask Dynamiks to review the appropriate payment or coverage pathway for the care being requested. Visit our insurance information page for additional guidance.

Nursing support built around the child's actual care needs.

Diagnoses alone do not determine nursing hours or services. The child's functional and clinical needs, physician orders, documentation, authorization, staffing, and approved care plan help guide the nursing approach.

Trach & Ventilator Needs

Licensed nurses with appropriate competency may provide ordered airway, tracheostomy, ventilator, suctioning, respiratory monitoring, and related skilled nursing support.

Feeding Tube Dependence

Nursing may support ordered G-tube, J-tube, NG tube, feeding pump, nutrition, site care, monitoring, and documentation routines.

Seizure Disorders

Nursing may include observation, prescribed medications, ordered rescue protocols, post-event monitoring, precautions, and clinical documentation.

Post-NICU & Hospital Complexity

Children transitioning home may need skilled support around oxygen, feeding, medications, equipment, monitoring, respiratory needs, or other ordered care.

Neuromuscular & Developmental Complexity

Skilled nursing may support children whose medical needs overlap with cerebral palsy, neuromuscular conditions, developmental disabilities, or other complex conditions.

Genetic & Rare Conditions

Care is organized around the child's actual skilled nursing needs, treatments, monitoring requirements, and approved care plan rather than relying on a diagnosis alone.

Licensed RNs and LPNs in your child's home.

Nurse assignment is based on the child's care needs, applicable scope and supervision requirements, nurse competency and experience, payer requirements, scheduling needs, and staffing availability.

Registered Nurses

RNs may provide skilled pediatric nursing, assessment, medication-related care, respiratory support, care-plan oversight, documentation, and other nursing services appropriate to the child's needs and orders.

Licensed Practical Nurses

LPNs may provide ongoing skilled nursing such as trach-related care, feeding support, seizure monitoring, medication routines, clinical observation, and documentation under applicable supervision and care-plan requirements.

24-hour home care questions.

Answers to common questions about pediatric and adult home care, overnight schedules, skilled nursing, coverage, and getting started in Florida.

Can both children and adults receive extended care at home?

Yes. Pediatric and adult services follow different care pathways. The appropriate provider, service, and hours depend on individual needs, orders when required, payer requirements, and staffing.

Is 24-hour home care the same as 24-hour nursing?

No. Home care can include personal assistance. Nursing involves clinical services provided by a licensed RN or LPN. A person who needs nursing-level care requires appropriately qualified staff.

Can my child receive overnight private duty nursing?

Overnight or extended pediatric nursing may be appropriate when supported by the child's clinical needs and care plan. Approved hours, documentation, authorization, location, and available nurses determine the arrangement.

Can we request only nighttime care?

You can discuss a nighttime schedule with Dynamiks. Explain whether the person needs personal assistance, awake supervision, or skilled nursing so the team can review the right service and availability.

Will one caregiver work continuously for 24 hours?

Do not assume one person can provide uninterrupted awake care for a full day and night. Discuss the staffing model, shift coverage, breaks, and handoffs for the proposed arrangement.

Does Medicaid automatically cover 24-hour care?

No. Benefits and approved hours are individualized. Eligibility, medical necessity, documentation, authorization, and the applicable program's requirements must be reviewed.

How soon can care start?

The start date depends on the requested service, location, documentation, orders when required, authorization, care planning, and qualified staff availability. The team can explain the steps for your situation.
